Frozen Water Line...Uh Oh!!

Who's had to deal with no water at the faucet due to frozen lines?

Imagine, first thing in the morning, you're half asleep, using the restroom and when you flush there is no water flowing! That's what happened this morning. We've never tested how low of a temperature we can leave our water hookups in place....well, consider that tested!

Last night the temperature dropped to 26 degrees - how did we miss this in the forecast??

This is one thing we've learned when staying in AZ - at least in the regions we've stayed; the temps may be great during the day but the overnights can still be quite cold.

After the initial restroom shock I checked the weather station on the wall and it was 28 degrees outside...a sudden feeling of concern overtakes me. The two concerns are the internal RV water lines and spigot. I opened the bathroom and kitchen faucets...minimal water flow. Time to go outside - I'm feeling much more awake now 😁

The pressure regulator at the spigot reads zero PSI. I wonder, 'Is the water to the spigot shut off?'

Okay, close the spigot valve and disconnect the hose. Checking the spigot and water is flowing so good news - no damage there.

Looking inside the hose there is definitely ice and the hose is solidly frozen - I could feel it when squeezing it and hear the ice crackling when bending the hose. Into the sunlight it goes to thaw.

Next I check the connection to the RV and sure enough there is ice there as well.

Checking the filter and it too is frozen. Into the sunlight to thaw along with hose.

Fearing the worst we turn up the heat in the RV, turn on the tank heaters and switch over to the fresh water tank to run water through the lines. No leaks detected at this time...

Think we're good as far as the RV is concerned. Now, about those outdoor water lines...it's a waiting game.

Good news!! After allowing mother nature to do her thing the hoses and filters are thawed and the only damage identified thus far is the pressure regulator isn't 100% functional. With the water off and hose/lines purged it reads 70 PSI. I attempted to release the pressure and reset to zero but that is unsuccessful. 70 PSI is now our zero.... I will need to research this and determine if I can fix this or if a new gauge will be needed.

So, that was our morning. How is yours? Hopefully, better than ours.

Lesson learned 👌
