Hello friends! There has been something bothering Jason and me since we began this adventure – the lack of recycling options!!
Regardless of where we have been, only a handful of sites have offered onsite recycling. For our family, that is a huge disappointment in that our recycling-to-trash ratio is about 3:1. We have practiced recycling for almost two decades. During our time on the mountain, each Saturday we would drive 22 miles roundtrip to drop off our recycling at the local transfer station.
We enjoy our soda and I use canned soups, etc. for cooking so we generate a lot of aluminum - which is dang-near infinitely recyclable.
Being mobile, we utilize Amazon often and so usually have two or three cardboard boxes a week – not to mention the cases that our soda comes in. We believe in minimizing our footprint on this planet – currently the only one we have btw!
We’ve attempted to use local recycling facilities as much as available. However, due to the pandemic, we have found many “public” sites are now restricted to local residents only.
I keep thinking there could be a business opportunity here, but I haven’t been able to connect all the dots – without us committing to a location for a longer period of time. And we aren’t ready to do that yet!
For anyone else who gets out and travels through RV parks, please be vocal about supporting recycling efforts.
Okay, climbing off my soapbox now. 😊 Thanks for listening!
